I’ve been going to buffet lunches for two days in a row and I feel….FULL.
It’s hard to resist these things when your boss tags you along as part of your corporate duties. I can’t complain. I love to eat but at the same time,I admire vegans who survive on celery sticks for dinner. I simply cannot imagine myself being in that situation. My food philosophy is to indulge what Life feeds you on the silver platter. I don’t want to receive my Last Rites thinking of the Ribeye Steak and Nicoise Salad I should have had, all because of that magic word which is the obsession of most women: d-i-e-t.
Honestly I don’t feel flattered when other people tell me I’ve slimmed down. Nor am I pleased when they ask me: have you been dieting? Am still doing my aero but am at this stage in my life when I feel secure enough with my “love handles.” Love me or leave me. I have this crazy notion that there’s no use being sexy when it will only attract the wrong men.I have been accused (or complimented?) many times of not looking too “motherly” so the gorging stays.
(Wait, wait! The only person who can make me change my mind about this devil-may-care attitude is Halle Berry. She does look gorgeous.)
Anyway, Tuesdays never fail to find me at the Fishing Village Restaurant in Padre Faura for my company’s weekly luncheon with the press.I enjoy it because I get to network and it gives me an excuse to indulge in my favorite Chinese foods cooked the Sichuan way. This type of cooking is known for being spicy and flavorful, with the chili pepper as a common ingredient. The downside is that the dishes in the resto are not as spicy already even though they have a Hong Kong and Sichuan chef. This is the weakness of most restaurants in Manila who have to downgrade the spiciness of their culinary offerings to suit the Filipino taste (sweet spaghetti anyone?)
Must-tries in Fishing Village (at least for this writer) are the crabs, steamed fish, Peking Duck,Peking bun, shredded beef, tofu, frog’s legs with salt and pepper and the pan-fried beans with dried preserved vegetables which surprisingly tastes very good.
For lunch today, the office gang tried the buffet at Don Henrico’s. Priced at less than $3, their eat-all-you-can pizza, pasta and salad (with soup to boot) is indeed a steal.
