Our baby is now two months old! We regularly visit her pedia and it’s good that the clinic is located in a little-known foodie destination called Paseo de Magallanes. We tried Bob’s in Paseo before and this time around, it was my turn to revisit the familiar old tastes of Dayrit’s – one of Manila’s original burger joints.
Dayrit’s only now has two remaining branches – Magallanes and The Fort (see end of this post for the complete address). Their main branch in Magallanes is supremely no-frills. However, it easily gets filled during peak hours with people craving for their time-tested specialties which include the roast beef and burgers.
Long before the birth of today’s jumbo burgers, Dayrit’s had its Big D Burger (sold now for P185). It’s as big as a plate and can be shared by two to four persons for a single serving. I like the beefy, juicy taste of their burgers. When a friend of mine went home from Canada a few years ago, this was what she was craving for. Shown here is their cheeseburger todo (P170), so called because it comes complete with lettuce and tomato.
Of course, their roast beef is such a joy to eat – tender and made flavorful by a separate serving of savory gravy. A roast beef plate (P300) comes with baked potato topped with cheese and bacon bits, veggies, plus a choice of mashed potato or rice.
I love their homemade meat loaf called “Spam.” It tastes like Spam, but it doesn’t come from the can 😀 An order of Spam steak (P270) gives me a slice of Spam made a little sweet because of the pineapple glaze and topped with a slice of the pineapple. You can have this with mashed potato or rice.
Hubby had the fresh corned beef (P285) which was served with boiled cabbage, carrot and potato. He said it made him feel like he was right back home (in the US). Corned beef, made from scratch, is another one of the house specialties.
And to end our meal, yummy Apple Pie a la Mode to share.
Verdict: Dayrit’s is home-cooked comfort food all the way! Before you go home, check out their take-out counter for more goodies. There’s packed longanisa, corned beef, chicken galantina, Spam, tapa and others.

I miss this homey resto specially the one in greenhills shopping center where I used to have breakfast and merienda way back in high school. What I usually order then was Dayrit’s Longanisang Macau with rice and fried egg… the moist pork meat of the Longanisang Macau (which was diced and not ground to a pulp!) combined with small pieces of fat taste a little gamey with a hint of sweetness and spice. Unlike your typical longanisa that goes dry when fried and breaks open so that it looks more like ground up pork than a longanisa, Dayrit’s Longanisang Macau is sliced diagonally, fried just right to a tender and juicy consistency.. you feel the tasty pork meat and fat almost melt in your mouth.. so yummy! or you can sliced it thinly to make it a little crunchy.. Any way you cook it, it still taste great! Oh, by the way, in those days you can buy the Longanisang Macau raw, per kilo, take it home and cook it your way. I just wish that they open a branch here in QC.. Somewhere in Katipunan or Timog and T Morato. Makes perfect sense since QC is where it all started!

I was craving for roast beef and their binagoongan but was disappointed to find that their branch at D Fort has closed down. Very few people, I guess, are aware that Dayrit,s has the yummiest binagoongan this side of town. Try nyo lang. Bukas I’ll visit their T. Morato branch
