It’s amazing how a one and a half hour boat ride in eternal sunshine can take you from Cebu to another province and that is Palompon, Leyte. Leaving Malapascua took us in a jiffy to the island paradise of Kalanggaman with a sighting of dolphins along the way…yay!
As an island, Kalanggaman spans only 753 meters but it boasts of the clearest waters and perhaps one of the most beautiful sandbars in the Philippines.
One can walk the whole length of this island in one day. It’s laudable how the local government of Palompon has maintained the surroundings and even limiting the number of people who visit. One can also camp overnight here but the facilities are really basic. There’s no water supply or electricity. There’s no restaurant as well but there’s a makeshift facility for cooking.
Our group paid P800 per person which was already inclusive of the return boat ride, filling lunch and hours of snorkeling (including the gear). An extra P150 was paid as local government fees but I could say this was one of the best value for money tours ever. It was so enjoyable and relaxing every step of the way!
Aside from the sumptuous food that our hospitable tour guides prepared, I really liked my snorkeling adventure. I saw a lot of fishes and Kalanggaman Island sure has some impressive corals out there.
We only stayed in Kalanggaman Island for six hours which already gave us a lot of time to swim, sunbathe, pose for photos and admire the natural surroundings. It was a most perfect day with the sun out in its full glory.I highly recommend a visit!
For the ultimate Kalanggaman Island day trip or tour package, just inquire from any of the resorts in Malapascua. Their rates (at least for the year 2017) are uniform for these tours.
