Beauty and wellness guru Cory Quirino is the new president of Mutya ng Pilipinas, the prestigious beauty pageant which is now 50 years old. The main focus of her administration will be the ultimate search for the Hometown Girl. She may be the once-shy lady you went to school with, or grew up and hang out with. It doesn’t matter who she is or where she comes from. Mutya ng Pilipinas will now give her a chance to come out of her shell and be the best version of herself.
“In the past six years of my own pageantry experience, I have come to realize that all kinds of beauties deserve to be discovered and given every opportunity for growth on the stage where they can best stand out. Thus the idyllic search for the Hometown Girl,” Ms Quirino disclosed during a press conference in Ascott Hotel Makati announcing her appointment as President.
To set the goal in motion, Mutya ng Pilipinas will launch a grassroots campaign in recruiting Mutya ng Pilipinas candidates. The organization has firmed up its alliance with the Liga ng mga Barangay headed by Kapitana Eden Pineda. The liga is under the auspices of the Department of Interior and Local Governments.
Both Pineda and DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Dino were present during the press launch and they’re shown in this photo with Cory Quirino and the reigning Mutya ng Pilipinas title holders Kheshapornam Ramachandran, Aya Fernandez, Paulin Amelineckx and Sharifa Akeel.
It was noted that Mutya ng Pilipinas will not just intensify their efforts locally, the international search will continue with existing partners abroad.
To provide more opportunities for its candidates, talented ones will be given the chance to become a movie or TV star, model or career woman. Mutya has formed a partnership with A Team President Ogie Alcasid and talks are also under way with ABS-CBN to accommodate the women showing the potential to join the ranks of the entertainment industry.
“Wherever the Filipina is and whatever hometown she resides in, whether in the Philippines or abroad, we extend a warm invitation to her to become a member of the Mutya ng Pilipinas family. With the full support of our dynamic chairman Fred Yuson and the artistic expertise of Ogie Alcasid, I am confident that together, we will take Mutya ng Pilipinas to the next level,” Quirino said.
The official search for Mutya ng Pilipinas begins this April. Coronation night is set in August 2019.
