The non-millennials among us will surely recognize Racks. It’s existing up to now and adding more branches but the owners thought it wise to breathe new life into the food chain to cater to the younger generation. Hence the birth of Rackshack which now has two branches in the District Makati and SM Aura.
Rackshack SM Aura is modern yet homey and has wooden tables like most barbecue joints.
You can dine alone or with a group, no problem. There are solo meals as well as platters for sharing. There’s something for everyone and the good news is that prices are something the millennials can afford.
Here’s a preview of the menu….
We first ordered the Ridiculous Nachos (P365) and this looked awesome indeed. It had pulled pork, sliced sausages, sour cream, onion rings and dollops of cheese….who can resist?
I had a single order of the pork rib which was tender and flavorful. I also had shack beans to go with it (P65) which was what I liked of all the sides they offered.
The server recommended their Pulled Pork but it was a bit dry for my taste ( I prefer the ‘wet’ pulled meat variety). But I guess you can adjust the taste to your preference if you try any of their delicious BBQ sauces.
Yes, the sauces. It’s what the elder Racks has been known for and Rackshack improves it a notch by offering five tasty BBQ sauces that diners are free to get on the tables.
The Mother Sauce is Rackshack’s signature house blend, mild and sweet. The Spicy Mother Sauce is the extra hot version. Hoisin Sauce is what it is, the Asian seasoning while Carolina Gold is for mustard lovers who enjoy the blend of sweet and tangy flavors. Finally, there’s Kansas Sauce which is sweet and spicy.
I was surprised that the resto also offers a seafood dish, perhaps as a compromise for those who want to abstain from eating meat. This creole shrimp dish fits the bill perfectly.
We were able to talk to owner Chukri Prieto and here’s what he said: “At Rackshack, we believe that barbecue should have no boundaries. We want to turn barbecue into a unique social and interactive experience. Choose a favorite among our sauces, or pick two or three and pour them all over your ribs. Barbecue should be fun to eat and to share among friends.” Aside from this, there are also diversions that the younger set can enjoy in-house such as beer pong, dart board and board games.

So after you gobbled up the ridiculous appetizers, munched on the barbecue and savored the sauces, don’t forget to leave room for dessert. Rackshack has ice cream with toppings to go with it, and there’s also this Brownie Smores (P195). It tastes as sinful as it looks.
Rackshack is at 5th level
