Last Saturday, I did something really fruitful because I attended the Barista 101 (coffee making) class at the Maya Kitchen in Makati City. Being a coffee lover, I can’t tell you enough how thrilled I was to learn how coffee is prepared in a commercial setting, from operating the machine to making various kinds of coffee drinks. Among these are Americano, latte, cappuccino and mocha.
Our able teacher Eric taught us how to operate an espresso machine and how to froth milk for adding to your coffee concoction. But he did also teach us about how to come up with coffee preparations even without a machine, but just using tools like a French press and Moka pot.
The most exciting part was creating latte art. I didn’t know it’s just a matter of swirling the milk. Our teacher said it’s even easier when you use chocolate sauce. See this video –
Needless to say, I highly recommend the coffee-making session at the Maya, among other classes they have in their kitchen studio. Good news: there’s another coffee making class this Saturday, August 13. It’s called Coffee 102 and this will deal with choosing the right coffee plus Coffee Latte Arts Part 2, Cold Coffee Concoctions, Equipment Maintenance and Creating Your Own Signature Drink.
