Chubby’s Rib Shack is brought to you by the same people behind Buffalo’s Wings n’ Things which is one of our favorite chicken wings places in the metro. With Chubby’s, the concept is to offer the food specialties of the great American South like barbecued baby back ribs, BBQ meatloaf and pulled pork.
Judging from our first visit, it seems this chain has another good product in the making. There really aren’t so many places in the metro offering good, finger-lickin’ ribs. The big chains like Friday’s may, but they’re not as affordable.
I immediately warmed up to the interiors of the place. Wood is the predominant theme because wood = barbecue! The only problem was that there was only one server (a lady in denim shorts!) who was attending to 15 tables on a Saturday night. Still, it was a surprise that service didn’t suffer. I certainly didn’t feel like whistling just to catch her attention 😀
This attractive sign on the wall certainly makes you think that William Shakespeare may have loved BBQ. But then again he’s British 😀
More signs. Whoa!
Naturellement, I had to order their baby back ribs even though there were other interesting items in the menu ( like the burgers). I actually expected bigger, plumper ribs but at a decent price (P349, with two sides), that would be asking for the moon.
I was quite happy with my ribs in honey bbq sauce. The ribs were tender and the sauce was lipsmacking good. For the sides, I chose coleslaw and Texas garlic bread. I ordered the latter without knowing what it was, and out came a larger-than-usual slice of loaf bread. Next time am definitely ordering the honky tonk rice!
The coleslaw and the mac n’ cheese sidings weren’t really that outstanding. Coleslaw was a bit watery while the mac n’cheese wasn’t at all creamy.
The seasonal veggies wasn’t special either, it’s just like the packet we buy from the grocery. But I only have good things to say about their baked beans (right of photo). It’s yummy! Note: I just wish they put their sidings in a better container, and not takeaway cups.
The pulled pork platter (P234, also with two sides) had the same deliciousness though we think the pork should have been threaded to finer bits following the Southern tradition. The pulled pork was served atop a slice of Texas garlic bread and hubby folded it in half when it was time to eat it. It looked good. I also wanted to grab the sandwich 😉
Because eating at Chubby’s makes me think of Buffalo’s, I ordered a half pound of honey bbq wings (P134) Again, the wings didn’t disappoint…in fact, I wanted more! Nomnomnom….
Chubby’s Rib Shack is definitely a place we want to go back again. May you go forth and multiply…. nearer to our location! 😀
The shack is at the ground floor of the Solaris One Building in De la Rosa St. Legaspi Village, Makati City. It’s on the other side of De La Rosa, if you’re coming from Greenbelt.
