Two weeks ago I was at the launching of Nokia’s latest phone models at this five star hotel. I must say it was a superb experience munching on salmon & beef roulade while pretty ladies unveiled the phones one by one, as one might expect at a Sotheby’s auction. If you haven’t noticed, Nokia has been churning out phone models every quarter or so – which is indicative of its demand in the market, and the threat posed by equally-prolific brands like Samsung et al.
As a result of that event, my dream phone at the moment is the Nokia 6680 which will be out this month. It has a dual camera (front and back) where you can set the color tone either in sepia, color or black and white. What more, it enables one to share videos during a normal voice call, like what a webcam would do. For my full review, click here.
But of course, I also dream of owning the Sony Ericsson W800, otherwise known as the world’s first Walkman phone; the new O2 mini and the Treo 600. Being a realistic gal, however, I have to keep my excitement in check because having an expensive gadget should be the last of my priorities (kids first!)
I have noticed that most of my millionaire-friends don’t even own any of the swanky, high-priced cellphones. Which means the urge to acquire them could just be part and parcel of the colonial mentality of Filipinos.
It is also ironic that major cellphone companies keep on churning out the latest model gadgets when the salary of the average Filipino worker has not increased at all. Would you really be so wise as to invest in a pricey cellphone on your next bonus, knowing fully well that it will depreciate in a few months or so? Just wondering.
