Speedboat cruising in rough watersOriginally uploaded by annalyn. The weekend saw me going to Nasugbu,Batangas again for the Punta Fuego Sailing Fiesta. Was it a fiesta? Nope, if you consider the hair-raising adventure we had cruising through the rough waters off the Nasugbu coast which was right in the middle of the South China Sea.I was looking forward to sailing after a long time, and so I was all too excited when we boarded our speedboat, the 24-footer Fuego II. We were supposed to follow the regatta participants in their puny hobies and catamarans with their ... Continue Reading...
Group outing in Subic Bay, Olongapo City
Firing squad shot upon arrival Originally uploaded by annalyn. My Rotary Club just spent a great weekend inside the sprawling Subic Bay. It was a Junket masquerading as our Planning Session filled with lotsa food, laughter and camaraderie for everyone. We were like adults on our kindergarten field trip. There was Tio Paeng, the funniest septuagenarian-doctor on the planet; Bob, who was acting like a 13-year old trapped in a 38-year old's body; the Rotarian twins, Joy and Jacqueline; Attorney Jobie who was with his pregnant wife, and our predominantly male officers ... Of travelling quirks and other wandering tales
Looks familiar? (Drawing by Dindo Llana)Originally uploaded by annalyn. By reason of the fact that thousands more of our countrymen are, or will be, working abroad in search of a better life, Filipinos can very well qualify for the title "most traveling race."There are good and not so good stories about Pinoys in foreign lands but what probably distinguishes us from the rest are our travelling quirks. They say you know it's a Filipino at the international airport when that person is standing next to eight boxes. This person also has carry-on luggage that requires the ... Continue Reading...
To Dumaguete City and back: romancing the sea
Dr. Absin's Xmas HouseOriginally uploaded by annalyn. It's funny how I went to Dumaguete City like I was only going to Alabang: hop on an early 5:25 am flight that took me only 55 minutes, and come back the day after. Short as my stay was, it was event-filled and I felt like Dumaguete could be my home forever.I fell in love with the place as soon as I checked in at the South Sea Resort Hotel. The resort had spacious grounds lined with coconut trees and rooms overlooking the ocean. The receptionist said those two mountains dotting the horizon were Cebu and Siquijor ... Continue Reading...
Punta Fuego: What it feels when you’re on top of the world
Double infinity pool at Peninsula de Punta FuegoOriginally uploaded by annalyn. Being in Peninsula de Punta Fuego makes you feel that everything's all right with this beautiful country. This slice of heaven, otherwise known as the playground of the rich in Nasugbu, Batangas province, can be reached by a two hour-drive from Manila. My friend Mawi invited me there as a guest over the weekend and it was really invigorating to breathe the fresh air, take a dip in its famed double infinity pool, and see the wide expanse of the South China Sea framed by blue skies in ...
