Over the weekend, the family had a wonderful staycation at F1 Hotel Manila, otherwise known as the first topnotch hotel to rise in Bonifacio Global City. Their location is simply superb since it's just walking distance to Bonifacio High Street, St. Luke's Medical Center and other happening areas in the bustling Fort strip. F1 is part-hotel, part-residential. It is also 100% Filipino owned so it was quite impressive stepping into their modern lobby on the fifth floor. You'd think it was part of an international chain. We checked in their Fort Suite, a ... Continue Reading...
When in Hong Kong: The Excelsior
The Excelsior was one very fine hotel I stayed in during my last visit to Hong Kong. Owned and managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, it is the largest hotel in Hong Kong island with 884 guest rooms and suites. You can choose a view of the city or Victoria Park but nothing beats the rooms overlooking Victoria Harbor where you can see the boats passing by and of course, the magnificent buildings on the Kowloon side. It was quite dream-like to have this image of Hong Kong from my room, albeit a little foggy. I wax sentimental over skyline views, it makes me ... Continue Reading...
#weekenddiscoveries: Antipolo City!
This is something we'd probably agree on: I love going to places I've never been to, discovering new tastes, relishing new experiences... am sure you do too! When Abby of Nuffnang Philippines invited me last month to a secret weekend escapade, the question was apt: when was the last time you discovered something for the first time? Truth is: the last time when I discovered something for the first time was only the week before (eh heh) but hey, I never say no to NEW! :) The day started with a power breakfast at the cozy Mom & Tina's restaurant along C5-Libis. A ... Continue Reading...
Road to Angkor Wat
Happy to greet 2013 crossing one more thing off my bucket list and that is seeing the historic, majestic Angkor Wat.There are many ways to see this ancient site: if you've got the extra budget, ride a helicopter (about $95) or a balloon (see photo). You can also go around the Bayon temple astride an elephant. A first-timer like me was better off hiring a tuk-tuk for $15. This was better than joining a group or opting for a tourist bus, in my opinion. At least you can explore the temples at your own leisure without waiting for other people. You can also tell ... Cambodian cooking class
In the same way that I took a cooking class in Hanoi, I also couldn't resist taking one in Siem Reap. It was the best $10 I've spent in an activity so far. Nothing's more exciting than hearing it from the locals themselves on how to prepare their dishes. And being able to whip up a foreign dish is something you can happily show off to family and friends back home. It's easier than you think ;) I took the class at Temple Bar in Pub Street. They had this spacious spot on the second floor with all the bells & whistles for a whole afternoon of cooking. Aside from ... Continue Reading...
