Temple of Leah is a nice pitstop to make on the hills of Cebu City. You can easily go here before or after seeing Tops Lookout and the Taoist Temple. The Temple of Leah was a must-see since it's one of Cebu's newer attractions. It reminds one of the Acropolis in Greece but the story is more of the Taj Mahal in India :) The temple is the architectural tribute of businessman Teodorico Adarna to his wife Leah who died on January 4, 2010 at the age of 69. Guests can see the family lineage in this marker on the wall. One of Teodorico's grandchildren is the model ... Continue Reading...
The Green Sun Hotel, bistro & event venues
I've attended quite a few events at the Green Sun in the past year. For those of you who don't know about it, it's this HUGE block of a building in the quiet part of Makati that's the Don Chino Roces Ave. (formerly Pasong Tamo) extension. For a long time, this used to be the headquarters of the Solid Group until it was "repurposed" recently by prominent architect Gil Cosculluela. All of 20,000 square meters, I always look forward to visiting the Green Sun because it is an oasis in the city and hosts some of the most interesting contemporary art in ... Continue Reading...
Olango Island: a good day trip from Mactan, Cebu
A visit to Olango Island makes a good alternative if you're tired of the usual beach-hopping around Mactan and beyond. In fact, you can make this trip for a little under 500 pesos per person.Olango is quite known for being a bird watcher's paradise and for their marine sanctuary. The birds already left when we arrived close to noon but my daughter and I enjoyed our mini-trip just the same. I would call the Olango trip as my first real adventure with my 5 year old daughter Lucia. We rode three means of transport: tricycle, motorcycle and outrigger boat. In return, she ... Whale shark watching in Oslob … a surreal experience!
The long APEC holiday found me in the province of Cebu to avoid Manila's traffic, road closures and no-fly zones.I am not really excited about Cebu City since it reminds me so much of MNL with its malls and rush hour gridlocks. My game plan for this trip was to head to the islands and see the beach. Am so glad I did that...and so much more! 'More' in this case meant the part where I went swimming with the whale sharks in Oslob. Most people who have been there say it's a surreal experience. I wholeheartedly agree!!! The dictionary defines surreal as seemingly ... Continue Reading...
Sky Studio at Solaire: our best hotel room in Manila for 2015!
As a traveller, I rely on hotel review sites, blogs and even Facebook to check out places whenever I go to a new destination. But nothing beats word-of-mouth or the feedback I hear from friends. If their recommendation is positive and it's within my budget, then I go for it! My curiosity certainly got piqued when a friend - whose family owns a popular restaurant chain in Manila - was gushing about the hotel rooms in Solaire Resort & Casino. She told me how the rooms are materiales fuertes (of top quality) and how they've always liked staying there. Since my ... Continue Reading...
