On a recent trip to Mactan in Cebu, I made a side trip to Malapascua Island because every foreign tourist I talked to were labelling it as their favorite. A scenic picture of palm trees swaying amid a wide expanse of beach was enough to get my bags packing in the northern direction. How to go to Malapascua island: Long bus rides are discouraging enough but it wasn't as grueling as I thought. From Mactan International Airport, one can easily catch a taxi or an Uber and it only cost something like P150 early in the morning to go to Northern Bus Terminal in ... Continue Reading...
Truly five star! Our Marco Polo Ortigas staycation experience
Something to cross off the bucket list: the girls and I finally had a staycation at the much-acclaimed Marco Polo Ortigas Manila last August. A few articles in this blog will tell you that I've wined and dined in this hotel several times, but staying was a totally different experience. It certainly made me find out the wonderful things that made Marco Polo earn the coveted five-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, the most prestigious standard for luxury hospitality in the world. The classy design is the first thing I love about Marco Polo Ortigas. There is ... Continue Reading...
Day trip to Dumaguete and island-hopping tour
Dumaguete is the capital of Negros Oriental and known as the 'City of the Gentle People.' The city itself is relatively small, but offers a vibrant atmosphere and nightlife thanks to the large amounts of students there. Going to Rizal Boulevard at night is especially recommended – it's a great way to experience the city's unique style. HOW TO GET THERE? The best way to get to Dumaguete is by taking a direct flight from either Manila or Cebu. Ferries from Cebu and Tagbilran, Bohol are also available, but if you're on a short vacation it's not the best choice since the ... Continue Reading...
Online car registration is the way to go!
As a female driver, I've realized a long time ago that navigating the crazy streets of Manila is an exercise in patience and courage. However, we have also no choice but to adopt the attitude 'take it or leave it!' I have to admit that the stress of the rush hour and driving the distance from the south to center of Manila (and vice versa) made me resign from my corporate job last year. It was just too much to handle. I wanted some family time instead of spending it stuck on the road in the thick of the rush hour. As motorists, we are probably united in our ... Continue Reading...
Taal Volcano DIY tour : a great day trip outside Manila
It's been a loooong time since I climbed Taal Volcano. Make it close to 20 years! Manilans like us just go to Tagaytay for the cool weather and to try out the restos. Mostly, we're content seeing the ridge from afar. The view, even in McDonald's, is simply priceless. Motoring down to see Taal Volcano up close is highly recommended if one's tired of the same old routine. The visit appears to be more popular among foreign tourists, out-of-towners and balikbayans. They find it amazing that there's a lake within a volcano, and an active volcano within a lake. Only ... Continue Reading...
