Most of my friends have their own horror stories about flying but most of it is about the plane being shaky and uncomfortable mid-flight. Once on a 5J trip to Coron, Palawan, turbulence was so bad for the whole stretch that my seatmates were retching to death on the barf bags and I was trying to humor myself by talking to the stewardess and asking her why the pilot has been quiet throughout :) However, I've figured out that turbulence is not really the culprit for most air accidents, although this one doesn't paint a pretty picture either. Aftermath photo of the ... Continue Reading...
In HK: the giant rubber duck
Art Basel 2013 was the "it" event in Hong Kong last week but the majority remained crazy about the giant rubber duck that's been positioned in Victoria Harbor since May 2. Towering at 54 feet, it is a travelling art installation by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman and is slated to visit the US next after previous visits to Osaka, France, Sydney, Auckland and Sao Paulo. Was lucky enough to be in the territory and I admit it makes for a spectacular sight, especially when placed amidst a backdrop of HK's famous skyline ;) I was imagining our Manila Bay can experience ... When in Hong Kong: The Excelsior
The Excelsior was one very fine hotel I stayed in during my last visit to Hong Kong. Owned and managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, it is the largest hotel in Hong Kong island with 884 guest rooms and suites. You can choose a view of the city or Victoria Park but nothing beats the rooms overlooking Victoria Harbor where you can see the boats passing by and of course, the magnificent buildings on the Kowloon side. It was quite dream-like to have this image of Hong Kong from my room, albeit a little foggy. I wax sentimental over skyline views, it makes me ... Continue Reading...
Congestion at Clark International Airport
Clark International Airport (formerly Diosdado Macapagal International Airport) is relatively small and the nearest airport to Manila. But because of the airline traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, this is being groomed to be an alternate transport hub. Regardless of its name ("Macapagal" is after all a nemesis of this "vindictive" administration), I hope the government is sensible enough to develop this small town airport before it becomes another nightmare like NAIA. Passing through here recently, I saw the bad signs of congestion ... Continue Reading...
A nice flying experience with SEAIR
It was my first time to fly with SEAIR during my recent trip to Hong Kong. I haven't even flown domestic with them. The amiable PR, Jingjing Romero, assured me "no air pockets!" and true enough, the experience I had was smooth and pleasant. It helped that weather conditions were good too. SEAIR uses the Airbus A320 for its regional flights to Southeast Asia. It has the official tourism slogan More Fun in the Philippines proudly emblazoned in its body. SEAIR as a low cost carrier has a tie-up with Tiger Airways (in fact, I think Tiger owns the former ... Continue Reading...
