I 'partially' work in the hotel industry. More recently, a couple asked me for help in booking the biggest jacuzzi in Manila. I presume it couldn't be in the formal hotels which have these conventional bathtubs. And so I looked elsewhere. Here is what greeted me in the Victoria Court website : the Oval Office theme room. Right! All I can think about was Bill Clinton and Monica Lunoksky :D ... Continue Reading...
Holy Week 2008 Manila
Why did I get the feeling that Manilans didn't at all leave Manila during this long Holy Weekend? Signs of this were the traffic as well as the crowded restos and other public places. Long lines at Chow King in Blue Wave-Macapagal. Black Friday dinner crowd at the new Seaside Market/San Miguel by the Bay in Mall of Asia - filled to capacity! Incidentally, I love this new hang-out, with its long bayside promenade. It reminds me of the original Baywalk, without the hassle of crowding in a major road. Among the restaurants found here are Harbor View ... Continue Reading...
Cowrie shells at the Cowrie Grill, Manila Hotel
This is a photo tribute to the Cowrie Grill of the Manila Hotel, one the metro's enduring fine dining places which was opened in 1976 as a symbol of opulence of the (fill your own adjective here) Marcos era. On a business lunch there recently, I couldn't help but gape at the precious cowries on display. Cowrie curtains. Intricate cowrie wall accessories. And the grand centerpiece - a cowrie chandelier that is composed of 1,592 cowrie pieces stringed together (the figure is from hotel scion Emilio Yap III, hope I remembered the number right). Hard-to-find cowries ... Continue Reading...
Ever heard of Killion?
I've gotten a lot of searches and inquiries on this site regarding Killion Merchandising in Quiapo. Killion is a very familiar name among people in the food service industry. However, the connection escapes me since I don't go to this store much; however, I presume you'd have more affinity with Killion if you own a restaurant, baking or catering business. The store is very unpretentious and finding it is hard. You just have to ask a local and they will point you to one of those obscure Quiapo side streets. What is good, as I found out from my last visit, is that ... Continue Reading...
Read at the end of this post for your free ‘spiked after 5’ coffee from Delifrance
Delifrance (Philippines) just hosted a cozy get-together with us, bloggers, at a branch in Salcedo Village, Makati. This cafe is quite familiar to me.. there is one across my present office in UN Avenue, Manila. Delifrance is not as common as its sister company Jollibee though... maybe because the prices are at least three times higher here? I've always complained, why is Delifrance more expensive? Answer: because the shrimps in Delifrance's seafood marinara actually taste like.. real shrimps! Plump and juicy (tell me if this is not the case with yours) Coffee ... Continue Reading...
