Am glad there are one-of-kind, wholesome shows in Manila which we can proudly tell our visiting friends to see, apart from the usual walk to Intramuros and the Manila Bay sunset. This is what happened when I brought my balikbayan mom to see Wanders at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Paranaque last year. Heard nothing but "ooh's and aah's" from her and the whole brood; same with my American mother-in-law who was duly impressed and said it's one of the best shows she's seen. You see, a "tourist attraction" need not only be a place, it can also be a spectacle, a ... Continue Reading...
Ozeano Fusion Restaurant and our wedding reception at Manila Ocean Park
Manila Ocean Park is one of the city's latest tourist attractions. When I visited it with the family sometime last year, I knew that we just had to have our wedding pictorial there. I was amazed with the see-through walkway tunnel where you can view the fishes swimming in their full splendor. To my mind, it was simply one of the scenic places to have a picture for posterity with your loved one. Here are some Ocean Park pics taken by our official wedding photographer: When it was time to lighten up, we chose to have a sweet moment with the Manila Ocean ... Continue Reading...
Manila Ocean Park: family-friendly fun!
Since it's Christmas bonus time, I decided to treat my kids to visit the sprawling Manila Ocean Park behind the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta. It was our first time to see the place since the Park opened to the public almost a year ago. These costumed clowns greeted us at the entrance: First impressions: MOP could do better with a little more organization, more park guides to lead the visitors and brochures. Some parts, like the open water marine habitat, are not yet open to the public. Overall, we had a good time. Am glad there's a place like this now in ... Continue Reading...
Filipino desserts
Since I have enough Flickr pics to show for it, here's my little lowdown on Filipino desserts. Mind you, this is not complete yet. Am craving for guinataang halo-halo right now, and I don't have a photo to show for it. Kudos to the new breed of Pinoy restaurants, even the so-called fusion ones, for giving new twists to old favorites. Our sweet tooth craveth :D Palitaw with Chocnut (P75) at La Mesa Grill, Mall of Asia. The well-loved local delicacy called palitaw (made of rice flour) is given a different interpretation by adding crushed bits of Choc-Nut instead ... Continue Reading...
Mario’s Restaurant Quezon City : a classic reinvents itself
Mario's Restaurant has been there for as long as we can remember. During a dinner recently, we were surprised to find out from Mario's scion Fil Benitez that the original Mario's in Baguio City is 37 years old, while the one in QC is 28 years old! I believe these two are the only surviving branches now; still, that's impressive for a highly competitive industry where the average life span is from five to ten years. In the case of Mario's, it pays to be known for something. It has always been a preferred place for cozy meetings and romantic dates. We learned that ... Continue Reading...
