It has been four years since I last visited Zapata's, the great Mexican resto just outside the perimeter gate of the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga. Going to Clark usually means "food trip!" and during this weekend holiday, I showed the family usual haunts like the VFW Post 2845 and Holiday Inn (their Mequeni Cafe had a great breakfast buffet, btw). I especially warned the hubby to save some room for Zapata's, especially as he loves his Mexican food. The interiors are very colorful and remains one of my favorites. There is always something ... Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao in Greenhills for hubby’s birthday
I haven't been to Greenhills in ages. Hubby wanted to go here because he received tips from online folks that this is the place to go to in Manila for Xbox repair. You see, it's not only a haven for clothes and accessories but also the latest in mobile phones and electronics equipment. I think they sold the iPhone 4 here, even before it was offered by Globe to its subscribers. Greenhills also equals food. The whole area is peppered with restaurants boasting of good food to try. And at present, one resto packs them in - Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao which is an ... Continue Reading...
100 towns vying for No. 1 dish in 100 days of Christmas with Eden Cheese
I love cheese, and am amazed at how our native Filipino dishes can be made even more special with its addition. Like the Kesong kesong Ambugong dish from the town of Altavas, Aklan (pictured above). Delectable biko (rice cake) is sandwiched between with coco jam and cheese in what looks like a very irresistible pairing. How about the Special Suman con Quezo of Tuao, Cagayan in the far North? Our local delicacy made of glutinous rice is made even more exciting with the surprise addition of cheese inside the rice cake. ... Continue Reading...
Din Tai Fung: these divine dumplings were born in Taipei
Read also my old post: Shanghai food without flying to Shanghai at Suzhou Dimsum On our first night in Taipei, we went to a culinary must-stop, the great dumpling house Din Tai Fung, particularly its first location in Taipei's Xinyi Road. There was easily a line outside as it was the dinner rush hour. It's impressive how DTF has become an international chain, with five branches in Taiwan and outlets located across China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, the US, Japan, Korea and Malaysia. The Hong Kong branch, for one, earned a One Michelin Star this ... Continue Reading...
After chicken-all-you-can, free rice + Pepsi from Max’s
Max's chicken-all-you-can promotion @ P165 was such a big hit, I know. Where else in the world can you get irresistibly good chicken for a little more than $3 in an eat-till-you-drop fashion? Before the promo closed, I made sure to eat with three of my male officemates in Max's Ma. Orosa branch in Ermita. Luckily, this was a secluded location and not as crowded as the others. This time around, it was nice taking a shot of the bones after we devoured all the chicken :D Now, Max's is having a promo again, albeit in a smaller fashion. Diners will be treated to a ...
