Adobo is one of my all-time favorite Filipino dishes. I guess you could say it's my comfort food. Through the years, I've been blessed with nannies who cooked adobo well - you know, the version where you have pork and/or chicken simmered in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and other flavorings. I am saying this because there are many varieties of adobo in this tropical country where adobo is king. The sad truth is am not so proud of my classic adobo although I cook the other versions quite well, such as adobong manok sa gata (chicken in coconut milk) and adobong pusit ... Continue Reading...
Group outing in Subic Bay, Olongapo City
Firing squad shot upon arrival Originally uploaded by annalyn. My Rotary Club just spent a great weekend inside the sprawling Subic Bay. It was a Junket masquerading as our Planning Session filled with lotsa food, laughter and camaraderie for everyone. We were like adults on our kindergarten field trip. There was Tio Paeng, the funniest septuagenarian-doctor on the planet; Bob, who was acting like a 13-year old trapped in a 38-year old's body; the Rotarian twins, Joy and Jacqueline; Attorney Jobie who was with his pregnant wife, and our predominantly male officers ... The family has just spent a most fabulous weekend in Punta Fuego and Tagaytay City and will be posting the pictures tomorrow.Allow me to let you in on a secret: while New York is my most favorite city in the whole world, Tagaytay is my favorite city in the Philippines. Surely, there are no comparisons between the two but I am simply enamored by Tagaytay's dainty charm, its cool weather, enchanting greenery and of course, the majestic view of Taal Volcano. This is the reason why am paying an arm and a leg for a piece of land 20 minutes from this city and it is here ... Continue Reading...

In the City of ... Continue Reading...
A fun family weekend in Pansol
Nene's cozy roadside food stall in Pansol. On display are lechon manok, grilled hito, pork bbq and salted eggs. (Taken with a Nokia 6230)The whole clan motored to Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna last Saturday for my mom's advanced birthday celebration. The uninitiated may ask, "Where is Pansol?" Well, the place happens to be known as the Hot Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines. Being just 54 kilometers away from Manila,it is a popular place for rest and recreation. People also go here for health reasons. There's a septuagenarian I know who attributes his "eternal ... Continue Reading...
