Royce Chocolates has always been elusive to Manilans and aren't we glad they now have an official franchisee in the Philippines. These are the Angs, the same family behind the Diamond Hotel. Royce Philippines first store is now on soft opening in Rockwell - a timely occurrence we might say, since it's the peak of the gift-giving season that's Christmas! Before this, we were quite content getting our Royce fix from Japanese stores like Konbini in Greenhills or whoever brought these divine chocs home from Tokyo, Hong Kong or Singapore. Royce Manila was kind enough to ... Continue Reading...
MoMo! Food + Drink, Robinson’s Midtown
From Chef Sau Del Rosario of M Cafe and Chelsea Market & Cafe now comes MoMo! Food + Drink in Robinson's Midtown, Manila. I have to admit this is my favorite hang-out these days, as it is almost walking distance from our office. Just a few of the reasons why I like this place: 1. Bright and chic interiors 2. The coffee comes with free ChocNut 3. I can eat here with only one hundred fifty pesos and still feel posh :P 4. Free Wi-Fi 5. Free use of the internet on their single LCD monitor 6. Watching the world go by on Pedro Gil Street 7. Totally sinful ... Continue Reading...
Filipino desserts
Since I have enough Flickr pics to show for it, here's my little lowdown on Filipino desserts. Mind you, this is not complete yet. Am craving for guinataang halo-halo right now, and I don't have a photo to show for it. Kudos to the new breed of Pinoy restaurants, even the so-called fusion ones, for giving new twists to old favorites. Our sweet tooth craveth :D Palitaw with Chocnut (P75) at La Mesa Grill, Mall of Asia. The well-loved local delicacy called palitaw (made of rice flour) is given a different interpretation by adding crushed bits of Choc-Nut instead ... Continue Reading...
Hellas Taverna: authentic Greek food in the heart of Manila
I work in the Malate-Ermita area and for all its imperfections, I cannot really complain about the diversity in food. Everything's just a walk away, whether you want hotel food (Hyatt, & Pan Pacific has a very interesting food court), $1 shawarmas at Shawarma Snack Center, juicy Shanghai dimsum like xiao long bao in Suzhou and those Korean holes-in-the-wall which seem to have overtaken this once-glorious tourist district. Am not even talking about the numerous culinary choices in Robinson's Midtown yet. What to eat, what to eat....? That is the question. It was a ... Continue Reading...
Top 7 restaurant habits that turn me off
Eating in restaurants is my vice or indulgence, since I don't smoke and hardly ever drink. I don't claim to be an expert, but at one point in this blog's life, I've been called a foodie, which is defined in this site as "someone who has an ardent or refined interest in food." Ardent, yes; refined is still something I have to achieve since most of the time, I prefer lutong bahay (home cooking), carinderia fare and making tusok the fishballs. Eating out - especially charting untried culinary territory - remains an adventure since you don't know whether what they will ... Continue Reading...
