November 30 is declared a national holiday in the Philippines to celebrate the heroism of Andres Bonifacio. This year, the date takes on a special significance as the dark clouds of the coronavirus pandemic lend an air of anxiety to countries all over the world. The Philippines is no exception. And in a timely manner, Bonifacio Day was commemorated in a different fashion this year. Thanks to the grassroots movement called Liter of Light, a special tribute was unveiled to honor the new modern-day heroes of 2020 - the Filipino health frontliners who have sacrificed their ... Kids’ costumes at Halloween 2014 in Manila
A surprising turn: I seemed to be more excited with Halloween this year than Christmas which is now 55 days away! Blame it on The Toddler who likes to a) dress up and b) eat candies like there's no toothache tomorrow. Am mostly an onlooker and I really like Halloween for the creative effort and variety behind all the costumes. I can't even imagine how some people make a 'career' out of it, even the adults.Manila's Halloween parties are the most fun there is. Holiday recipes from chef Sandy Daza
The warmest Merry Christmas greetings to this site's readers and friends! So how was your celebration? We spent it in Manila like we've done through the years. After the tsunami that hit Japan in March and the damages caused by typhoons Pedring and Sendong in the Philippines, we can only pray that there'd be no more calamities of such magnitude that will visit us in the coming year. As we say hello to 2012, am ready to offer a thanksgiving because 2011 was, overall, a good year. There were hurdles but I'd like to ... Continue Reading...
Merry Christmas / Maligayang Pasko :)
So how was your Christmas? It is close to midnight and about to end here in the Philippines though the Christmas tree will be up until January. I love the season (but not the traffic!) mostly because I get a high from seeing all the gaily-decorated lights in buildings and people's houses. Mr. Z took care of the noche buena last night, mostly because I was too tired from working the graveyard shift the night before. We kept it simple on the table: steamed veggies, shepherd's pie and this yummy pineapple upside down cornmeal cake ... ... Continue Reading...
