DTI business name registration is a failure

June 17, 2009 ·

Launching our little business last month has been an eye-opening experience. It has broadened my mind about the dynamics of being an entrepreneur in this country. I am bound to agree with the observations of some people (including foreigners) that the environment for doing business in the Philippines is poor and discouraging. But first of all, President Arroyo should crack the whip on agencies who are "good on paper" but are actually NO GOOD in what they do. For example, how does DTI Secretary Peter Favila and his staff explain the more than one month wait in the ... Continue Reading...

Katrina Halili did the right thing

May 21, 2009 ·

This morning, I did something that was out of my routine. Instead of checking my emails first thing, I viewed the town's most talked about videos featuring a celebrity doctor and his separate trysts with three models slash showbiz personalities, in various states of undress. It is because my web-connected friends have been talking about them that I had to ask for a link, rather belatedly. Of course, the sex tapes are also now available in your friendly bootleg vendor in Quiapo and elsewhere. ... Continue Reading...

Laptop & camera thefts are on the rise

March 15, 2009 ·

As a theft victim myself, I couldn't help but feel the pain of friends and acquaintances who've lost their precious gadgets recently. One is my Plurk friend Pau who lost his laptop and high-end cameras at the rooftop parking lot of MC Home Depot, The Fort in a span of less than 10 minutes! Last night, Plurk was abuzz again with news of another robbery. This time, somebody recounted how some rogue peeps broke into the trunk of a car and stole a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and a Dell laptop amounting to more than P200,000 at the Podium parking lot in ... My not-so-late Christmas wishlist

December 25, 2008 ·

My Manila Bulletin column on A Blogger's Wishlist For Christmas appeared two weeks ago, and am reprinting it here. Our peer, Melo Villareal, has an ongoing blog promotion on Christmas wishlists and am joining coz I want to win the 2009 Starbucks Planner, even though last year's remain unused :D Here it goes: It's the time of the year again! Christmas is synonymous with wishlists and we do this for a couple of reasons: remind ourselves in choosing which stuff to spend our bonus on, guide our loved ones as to our preferences, or serve as a raincheck for future ... If we have double-digit inflation, why do they keep on building condos?

August 8, 2008 ·

Two launch events I attended recently has made me do a double take on the state of our economy. If real estate companies are building more condos and houses, is there hope for better times ahead? Probably. If there's one belief that has been inculcated on me by other people, it is that you invest in land today with the hope that prices will appreciate in the future. Still have to test if the hypothesis is true, since I haven't disposed of any piece of real estate to see if substantial gains can be had...or not. Another real estate assumption is that it is always ... Continue Reading...

Sometimes I miss the cuisine of Singapore and Mala Sometimes I miss the cuisine of Singapore and Malaysia. Am glad there are restaurants in the city whenever I get intense #Asianfood cravings. Roti Shop in Rockwell is one of them #notsponsored.

Over the weekend, I convinced my friend Maricel to try the cendol (iced dessert similar to halo-halo) and the #roti paratha with curry sauce. And of course, who doesn't love Hainanese chicken rice and white coffee? 💯💕😋

If there's a member of my family who stayed the most time indoors during this #lockdown, it's my youngest Lucia. It's good she hasn't complained at all. When talking to her, am glad she only has the nicest recollection of our last trip a year ago in Taiwan. We went ahead with our flight even though there was already fear of the virus then.

My daughter is a picky eater, but I noticed when traveling, she is more adventurous with food. We always have fun going through our Taiwan photo album and recalling the nice hostel we stayed in, the perfectly crunchy fried chicken and all those #memories. It certainly helps tide me through the sadness of the present

We all know that we should practice proper hand hy We all know that we should practice proper hand hygiene to avoid getting sick. I have been doing this whenever I go out for errands. Thankfully, I have been healthy and not sick for a single day. This only means that we really need to make handwashing a part of our lifestyle in the new normal, along with constant disinfection, wearing face masks and face shields and following social distancing protocols in common public areas.

Am glad there is a brand like Green Cross with a complete line of products to keep bacteria and viruses away. I always have #CleanHandsWithGreenCross anywhere I go. It's a good thing they have a handy alcohol and hand sanitizer which I always keep in my bag. And the whole family uses Green Cross Germ-Protection Soap which not only kills 99.9% of germs but also smells so good!

This is a dedication post to my oldest daughter Dionne for being the rock I can count on. She's taking on more responsibilities these days with nary a complaint. I make sure I treat her once a week like ordering something online or buying her favorite cake. This Sunday found us having a mini-picnic outside eating the Acqua Pazza I cooked (poached fish in wine) and drinking Welch's Sparkling Rose. Not as fancy as fine dining, but it's always the little things that matter 💗💜🍇🍒🍹🥤

Zonrox products can kill the COVID-19 virus that's why I made sure we stocked on their products. I have been using my newest supermarket discovery, Zonrox Multi Clean in disinfecting high-touch surfaces. I love its fresh, long-lasting scent! 💗

Then I have my usuals, Zonrox Bleach Original and Zonrox Colorsafe to make our #laundry super clean and disinfected! These are staple items in my pantry which I can't live without!

We #DisinfectWithZonrox because an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure. Let’s remember to always show our MALASAKIT to others because #TheVirusEndsWithUs!

My son, my unico hijo, finally graduated from coll My son, my unico hijo, finally graduated from college (he was delayed by a year). You can just imagine how happy and relieved I was. For his birthday today, I slaved away in the kitchen to serve #homemade treats to the son and his friends. The highlight was the Aussie rib eye steak ordered from @sebastiansbutcherbox . I served it in two ways - with marbled potatoes and over alfredo pasta. I thought I overcooked the meat but it still turned out amazingly flavorful and tender. It made everyone's day definitely! 🥩♨️💯

Moms like me have two main priorities right now: e Moms like me have two main priorities right now: ensuring the health of our family and saving up for the "uncertain" future. Personally, am always on the lookout for products that bring the most value for money, especially when it comes to grocery shopping.

It's a good thing I discovered the new Champion by Energen. It's only 8 pesos per 35g pack and is fortified with essential vitamins, iodine, folic acid and calcium. It also has egg, which is a good source of protein.

My youngest Lucia loves its #delicious taste but as an adult, I dig it too because it tastes exactly like #hotchocolate 🍩🍫🥤🧡💯

Do you appreciate being in your own country? I do. Do you appreciate being in your own country? I do. I love being in a tropical country where I don't have to work my arse off to pay high taxes. I do work so hard now to earn good money so I can afford state-of-the-art health insurance and not depend on a measly state pension.

Call me stupid for staying in good old #Pilipinas 🇵🇭💗However, migrating just to be an "ordinary worker" somewhere else may no longer be applicable in this borderless world. Am not saying NO to moving in the future, but it should be a place where I can fall in love with the culture, has cheap real estate and won't kill me with taxes left and right. Other countries in the #world are simply overrated 🌎✈️
