An exciting point of my recent trip to Macau was my visit to Macau Tower, At 338 meters, it is on the world list as one of the highest towers, even taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris (324 m). The Macau Tower is one of the peninsula’s more famous landmarks and has been shown as a background in a number of movies.
Going up Macau Tower cost HK$100. Unlike the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, this one has a scenic elevator and you can see the Macau landscape along the way. Fearful of heights (don’t ask me why I chose to go up anyway), reaching the observation post made me scared because one part of the floor was made of glass (!!) and it felt creepy looking down. Eeeek!
Aside from offering movies, restaurants and assorted entertainment, the best part about Macau Tower is the adventure activities offered by the company of bungee jumping pioneer AJ Hackett. The tower presently holds the record of the world’s highest commercial bungee jump. Luckily that hour, there were a number of people waiting to make their jump. The jump cost 888 patacas (approximately $100). The question is: would I pay that much to have a heart attack in mid air? 😛 Anyhoo, this couple (a man and a woman) seemed excited….
Here’s a file video I saw on YouTube of the actual jump. You’re actually stopped in the middle to have a souvenir shot and then fall at 200 km/h.
Other Macau Tower adventures:
Skyjump (588 patacas) – Holder of the Guiness Book of World Records’ ” Highest Commercial Decelrator Descent.”
Skywalk X (248 patacas for adults, 124 for children) – Take a walk around the main outer rim of the tower with no handrails. Safety is ensured by the world’s first overhead rail system.
Mast Climb (888 patacas)- Conquer the Macau Tower summit by climbing 105 meters up the mast’s vertical ladders. The ascent and descent takes almost two hours. Macau Tower is the only tower in the world where you can climb to the very top. (Source: Macau Tower Brochure)

for someone like me who has major fear of heights (I gey dizzy riding escalators at shang mall!), that tower looks scary! but I heard the view up there is awesome.

Me too. I don’t like heights either. That was quite a feat, Ajay.

Seems most of us have the fear of heights huh. I think I’d have the guts to do a Skywalk if it was a big group or something 😀

Jumping just over anything is my kind of thing. That seems to be worth a try. In the future, of course.

You’re brave Igor. Do tell us how it went..if and when 😀
