We were fortunate enough to attend a tasting session at Bondi & Bourke last week as it opened its doors in Forbes Town Center, Bonifacio Global City. I had a nice experience dining at Abaca Restaurant in Cebu and its talented executive chef, Wade Watson, has left the fold to open his own chain of restaurants, and that’s B & B. Cebu’s loss is now Manila’s gain.
I haven’t been to Bondi & Bourke’s maiden resto in Legaspi Village, Makati. Its BGC branch is chicly designed in the style of a bistro, with a high ceiling and casual, stylish interiors.
The airy ambiance is just a bonus because you come to Bondi & Bourke for the food. And in here, Chef Wade has prepared an array of comfort favorites, in the style of what you would find in his native Australia.
The open kitchen has a full supply of imported meats and seafood because the chef believes only in using the best ingredients.Diners can order Australian lamb chops or Creekstone prime rib-eye steaks. Or have the choicest mussels or oysters to go with the drinks at the bar, which extends to the late night.
We started our afternoon party with an assortment of canapés. Mini pies and sausage rolls were passed around. Flaky crust and tasty fillings make for perfect pies and this was it!
This odd-looking photo is the foie gras brochette with tomato jam. I had a bite and it was heavenly. Somehow I regretted not finishing the whole stick but it was just too sinful.Sinfully good, I mean 🙂
The prawn cocktails were not to be missed. It tasted so fresh!
The chicken kebabs were delightful as well, lying in a bed of herbed cucumber and tomato salsa with olive oil-based dressing.
In between, the waitstaff were offering what seemed to be endless glasses of French champagne and I couldn’t refuse. We were waiting to savor more of the exquisite food and there’s no other way to enjoy it all than with a good drink. Or bubbly for that matter 😉
Our lunch proper started with the Warm Mushroom Salad which also had French beans, cherry tomatoes, arugula, alfalfa sprouts and shredded cabbage. My seatmates and I finished it in due time.
Then the main event came in the form of this Roasted Prime Rib Eye with potato siding. Even though full, my seatmates and I managed to dig in the big plate to taste the purity and wonderful tenderness of the meat. Oh my. This picture doesn’t do it justice.
Finally, Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. Bondi & Bourke surely knows how to make a good one, along with the lamingtons which are a must-try.
Budget an average of P500 to P1000 per person when dining here. Some of the servings though are generous and can be shared by 2 or more people. I can’t wait to go back for brunch!
