Macapagal Boulevard is known these days as the area where you apply for your passport and/or drive with care because there’s a 60kph speed limit in force. But I bet that this will be the “in” place in two years’ time because of the four or five world class gaming resorts slash casinos that will open, including another Resorts World.
In the meantime, let me tell you about my favorite restaurant at the moment.I like going here because it busts my hunger without breaking the bank. Plus, they have the most flavorful sauces for their food!
Welcome the Asian Noodle Company. At the helm is Thai-American Chef Natawoot Off Thammaphan who was schooled in the Culinary Institute of America and used to run the family-owned Kafe Yen in San Diego (until this young chef’s thirst for adventure brought him to Manila)
It all started when I sampled their Hong Kong crispy noodle with gravy (P139 for half an order). It was so good that I forgot the letter N in the word noodle. LOL. Of course, they also didn’t skimp in the ingredients. Make sure Chef Off does the cooking and not his assistants 🙂
The bagoong fried rice (P249 for a full order that serves two or three people already) is my absolute favorite. It’s the best I’ve tasted in Manila…
At the Asian Noodle Company, the secret is in the sauce. For example, I couldn’t figure out the savory ingredients behind this Drunken Noodle (except for the evident portions of basil). But it was yummy just the same. There’s no liquor used in this dish. The chef said Thai men traditionally eat this after a night of drinking around town.
Another must-try dish at ANC is the Bell Pepper Steak (P189 for a half order) which is tender, fried beef slices sauteed in oyster sauce, sesame oil and lots of veggies.
I loved the Nasi Goreng or Indonesian Fried Rice (P139) You will be asked to choose which topping you like between seafood, pork, beef or chicken)
Husband liked his curry.
The curries & other recipes were handed down to the chef from his Thai mom (shown here visiting from San Diego).
The only hit & miss for me was the crispy liempo with calamansi sauce. The citrus taste overwhelmed. But I will always give high points to this place for the presentation of the dishes, the affordable price points and of course, the deliciousness meter.
Repeat visits are forthcoming. I must try the pad thai, the hookien mee, more of the fried rice and the Korean chicken inspired by Chicken Delish (ahem. we knew Chef because he was our neighbor in Mercato Centrale, but then again he sold fish tacos there) Do try this joint before you head off to the opening of the Uniqlo store in Mall of Asia and MAFBEX at World Trade Center…. all happening this week 🙂
