We live around the airport area so you can just imagine what an effort it is to go to Quezon City. It’s like a probinsya to us Southerners, lol. Needless to say, I go to QC for special reasons like meeting long-lost friends or trying out a new resto. This time around, it’s to taste something heavenly at Afters Espresso & Desserts which is getting known for its must-try gelato!
We were invited to the place by the dapper owner Vince Lim Fideles who has a rather interesting story on how he started the business. He is a software developer by profession but admits to having a sweet tooth. So you can say he opened his coffeeshop because of his passion for desserts.”Afters” is the informal term used by the Brits for dessert.
Afters is also the brand for the gelato products that Vince will launch soon in the wider market like the groceries and health stores. I do like the name Afters…it reminds me of Happily Ever..of something smooth, dreamy and creamy..which is really what Afters Gelato is all about.
Vince said he went as far as California to study gelato-making and to make his products exquisite. He even showed us how gelato is churned out in the Afters kitchen. It doesn’t really take much space. You just have to have the right equipment and all the mixing can even tone your arms, haha.
Afters has more than a dozen flavors in its Tomas Morato shop at P95 per scoop for the regular, and P125 per scoop for the premium flavors. Some of those in the freezer line up are Cookie Butter, Strawberry, Vanilla, Mint, Mascarpone Cheese, and Ferrero Rocher…yum yum yum.
We tasted the house bestsellers like Salted Caramel, Pistachio and Belgian Chocolate. The latter wowed me, so authentic and sinful. My favorite is Pistachio because I go for mild, natural and refreshing flavors but I have to tell you…everything is good! 🙂
Tasting the gelato was the highlight of our visit but we also filled up on their food and drinks because it was dinner time. I was famished because I had a flight and little sleep, so ate everything with gusto.
The coffeeshop has an assortment of pastas…
This Spicy Hungarian Panini (P220) was very good, particularly as it came with a siding of my favorite California Crunch cassava chips.
Our group also shared the All Meat Platter (P280) which consisted of ham steak, bacon, cheesy franks and toasted bread. At this point, I already reached my processed foods limit for the day, hehe.
Afters Espresso and Desserts also has all kinds of drinks – not just hot & cold coffee concoctions but also tea and hot chocolate. I told Vince that I have acid reflux and so cannot drink coffee, milk or tea like I used to. He recommended that their Cold Brew coffee is ideal and safe for my condition.
But this Iced Salted Caramel Latte (P170) sure looked good!
I so enjoyed that night meeting the effervescent Manny Marinay, my jolly old buddy Bobby Requintina (who is covering Miss Universe in Manila) and catching up with my blogger friends Rowena, Michelle and John ..all of them are from QC by the way. Was engrossed with the chatter and food tasting that I forgot to take a photo of Afters cozy interiors. The place is definitely perfect for hanging out on quiet evenings or afternoons, or even for holding your business meetings.
Here’s a Brillante Mendoza level group photo taken by John of kumagcow.com to show the eye catching ceiling…
