As an addendum to the Max’s Power Breakfast, there was also an invite to have breakfast with Piolo Pascual ( a Max’s endorser) but I skipped that one since the presscon was to be held in Quezon City .. a place that’s already probinsya by my Manila girl’s standards (though I could live there again someday huh).
Anyway, who would we find while gallivanting in Rockwell yesterday but another Pinoy heartthrob, Marvin Agustin. My friend Jamie and I stumbled upon him while we were about to have dinner at Sumo Sam. He was there to supervise a photo shoot ~ Marvin being one of the owners of the Japanese resto. Sorry to say, Marvin didn’t look like a movie star that day :P, he also didn’t act like one. The chap proved to be very friendly and gamely posed for this photograph. Bet you didn’t know Marvin and I have something in common – we are parents of twins, hehe. Marvin appears to have his feet firmly planted on the ground, considering the number of his restaurant ventures – not only Sumo Sam but also Oyster Boy and Tentitas in Gateway.
After making small talk with Marvin, we proceeded to our table and browsed through the menu which had a lot of interesting items ~ salads, ramen, barbecued stuff (called the rikishi grill), teppanyaki and even Japanese carbonara. We settled for the Victory Boat which had generous servings of assorted maki and sashimi at P695.My companion ate like a chicken and we couldn’t finish the whole thing. Thank God take out is always an option.
My role that day was to be Jamie’s shopping chaperone and I really don’t mind for as long as she generously treats me to dinner and takes me shopping too!
First we go to the Anthem shop where my bud snaps up a couple of Paul Frank shirts and I happily try on a cutesy “Kiss The Cook” tee. Anthem also sells these $200 Lucky Jeans worn by models and celebs.Lucky is opening a separate store in Rockwell soon.
Ever the shopaholic, Jamie (shown with The Jack Spade bag here) decides at the last minute to buy the brand of tea we tasted at Sumo Sam’s. She also treats me to free Maybelline make-up and two bags full of groceries. “Go, take some for the kiddies!,” Jamie says while scooping up chips, chocolates and other what-nots here and there. Way to go Jim-wah. Thanks a hoot.
Here’s a postscript on why I love my gay friends to pieces:
1. We talk about boys ~ naturellement.
2. They’re generous with their boys, but they can also be generous with moi (they don’t share the boys though).
3. It’s not only boys, but I get to talk to them about bags, shoes, the arts, hang-out places, interior design, tsismis, music, movies and s-e-x, naturellement.
4. I delight in their gayspeak. I delight in my gayspeak when am with them.
5. I find that women-friends are more bitchy 😛
6. I’ve known them for such a loooong time, something like close to 20 years (!!) Do I have a choice really?
