The preview for “Batanes” was held in The Tides, Boracay’s newest hotel. It made me think that I am definitely staying there on my next visit! Its main advantage is that it is right smack in D’Mall at Station 2, a center of the Bora night life and just a few walks to the main beach. The second reason is that I so dig its minimalist motif and the black & white lines (okay, predominantly white). The last thing I’d like to see is tropical interiors in Bora (think rattan, bamboo and ugh, driftwood). Am glad that the new accommodations are going the direction of contemporary chic, design wise.
The Tides has 60 stylishly-designed rooms, with only two types to choose from: the Essential Room ($120) and the Exceptional ($160) This is the example of the latter, with its own bathtub:
Just a note though: the accommodations are enclosed in glass and the hotel is so designed that the transparent rooms can actually be seen from across the hallway, or on higher floors. Remember to part the curtains when you’ve just come from a drunken night out and is ready to plop down on the bed naked.
For daytime scenes of the hotel and a view of the magnificent sundeck with its infinity pool, check out the hotel’s official website.
I wasn’t able to fully explore the hotel menu, considering that we were only able to munch on some marinara pasta and a couple of appetizers during our visit. I figure it must be good, considering that the executive chef is Fern Aracama. He is also part-owner of Tides, along with that lovely actress I just chatted with Iza Calzado, her boyfriend Jerry Garcia, the hip guys of Embassy at the Fort (Eric Cua, Tim Yap et al)

so it’s true that the tides is owned, in part i think, by iza calzado. probably that explains why the tides looks very artsy. been there and i’d recommend it anytime.
