I’ve always envied girls born with long straight hair. God didn’t give me such an asset ..mine has natural curls which require the magic of some ironing tool or blow-drying in order to look flawless. In my previous previous office, some guy who must have been Blackwell in his past life needlessly asked me “is it windy outside???” Yes, that must have been me – the distressed girl with the shoddy hair in the shampoo commercial – if you get my drift.
Thankfully, I was able to find a good hairstylist in David’s Salon this year until my friend James recommended an even better one. During one of those blah-blah moments when I was complaining about being bored with my crowning glory, he told me about this “really good stylist.” Coming from somebody who was managing editor of a top glossy in the country, I had to hang on to his words like gospel truth, for after all they know all about the movers, shakers and the latest trendy things in this town (fingers crossed).
The only thing with Kester, Teh Singapore-trained Hair Stylist, was that I had to make an appointment because he was sort of a sales executive by day and styliste by night. Moreover, he wasn’t affiliated with any commercial salon and ran his own private idaho at their family home in Little Baguio, San Juan. (Little Baguio?? To go here, I had to leave my car at home lest I get lost and waste precious gas. First I had to take the MRT and then hail the cab of a driver who knows this obscure street Little Baguio…. good thing Kester was kind enough to text me step-by-step instructions in going to his place.)
To cut a long hair story short, I was finally sitting in a comfy chair in Kester’s quaint makeshift salon where he examined my hair like a serious scientist. He told me about what’s wrong with my cut and what he’d like to do. None of those routinary things that stylists do in some salons where they seem to mindlessly chop your mane, eager perhaps to move to the next customer. I liked the fact that Kester was taking all the time in the world to explain things to me in detail and what shape would flatter my face. I was most shocked with his revelation that commercial shampoos/conditioners available in the market damage the hair because they accumulate build-up and contain very harmful chemicals. Being OLD now, I’ve long decided that I’d invest in my hair, because what’s the use of wearing expensive watches and jewelry when you’re losing it up there because of neglect? (ouch! but true)
So aside from taking biotin supplements, I’ve said bye to the normal shampoos and bought US made Nioxin conditioner and shampoo, upon Kester’s recommendation. It might be more expensive but at least am assured that what am putting to my hair comes from healthy ingredients. Besides, it’s a known hair enhancer and thickener. Kerastase is another good brand, according to Kester, but also a bit pricey.
The nice thing about going to a great stylist is that you can afford not to get a haircut for several months because the hair will fabulously fall into place (the longer it gets, the better, so Kester tells moi) And of course, my friends now tell me how different my hair now looks and so out-of-the-ordinary.

Hey Ajay, looking good! Thanks again for lunch.
It’s true, Kester Salvador is a cut (pun intended) above all the hairstylists I’ve met. He takes at least half an hour analyzing your hair, how it moves, from what direction it falls, etc. The first session takes at least an hour and a half—that’s how detailed and passionate he can get.
I’d recommend Kester to anyone because a cut with him is really a good investment. You can probably wear your hair out for a year and it’ll still look good, because it’ll grow evenly all over.

Thanks Manuel:) (I still have to see the newspaper!)
Well said James. Am glad I also have found a new friend in Kester. Anyway, I missed an appointment because of our make-over session but I don’t regret it one bit. Am confident that I’ll just let my hair grow naturally in the coming months and it will still look gooood (like the rest of me, LOL)

I always thought you had lovely hair. But my dear, this new hair style suits you too. I had falling hair for many years. My sister from the states bought Nioxin in large bottles. Unfortunately my hair didn’t improve. It was coconut oil that did the trick. Anyway, I won’t need relaxing as my hair is super straight

Nice hairstyle. Can you give us an idea how much he charges? Baka naman makulot ang straight kong buhok. But it’s really funny how girls with curly hair have their locks straightened while those with straight hair also complain about about not having any curls. =)

Hello! I’m in search of a good hair stylist as mine transfered to a different location. Does Kester also do hair coloring? How much does a haircut cost with him if you don’t mind my asking? Thanks!

Hello!
I was creeping around the internet looking for a good hairstylist, and I learned about Mr. Kester. I googled his name, and up came your blog. There isn’t any other place I can get info, so please don’t mind me asking how much a girl would shell out for a session with Mr. Kester?
Thanks!
Val 🙂
