Sentro 1771 ( with branches in Serendra and Greenbelt) is my Caucasian hubby’s favorite Filipino resto, and his favorite dish is their sinigang na corned beef. He never fails to eat this heaping bowl with gusto, a dish which was undoubtedly made famous by the restaurant.
It was a joy to know that Sentro offers breakfast too. Since the place appears to take pride in their own corned beef, made from scratch, ordering the ginisang corned beef was a cinch. What I like about this home-cooked version: you somehow feel better that’s it’s not from the can, with less of those harmful sodium and preservatives.
Sentro 1771’s Filipino breakfast sets come with the mini fruit juice of the day, a choice between brewed coffee, hot chocolate, or hot tea, scrambled egg with tomatoes and onions, and garlic rice. Prices range from P300 to P380.
I ordered the Baguio Longanisa na Durog which was fried to a crunch. After tasting this I found out that I prefer the native sausage intact in their links… more juice that way! Still, this was worth trying…
Now, if you fancy another dish in the breakfast menu, you don’t have to order the whole set again. Just ask for an extra serving of the dish you like, it comes out cheaper that way. This is what I did with the Ginisang Tinapa Flakes with Bagoong which I simply had to try because it’s listed in the chef’s recommendations. I liked the flaked tinapa which was crispy and at the same time made flavorful by the addition of shrimp paste.
Blame it on the weather. Almost everyone in the family were fighting colds and cough this week, so tasting Sentro’s warm bowls of champorado (P160) and boneless chicken arroz caldo (P220) proved to be very comforting.
The champorado you can order with tuyo flakes or crispy danggit!
Sentro’s breakfast offering also has Western selections … muesli, French toast, omelette and the like. We’ll remember this for when we come back next time.
My family loves taking good, leisurely breakfasts and we’re always searching the metro for good brunch places. Sentro 1771 never disappoints for its refreshing take on Filipino cooking. And I just have to confess: I simply love those yellow plates and of course the unbeatable ambiance. On the Saturday we dined, Serendra proved to be the serene hang-out that I wanted it to be. The crazy lunchtime crowd didn’t arrive yet and we savored our brunch in peace.
