The 6th Philippine Harvest Meets Bon Appetit recently held at Central Square in Bonifacio Global City was one food festival I thoroughly enjoyed. It was organized by the Department of Agriculture and Stores Specialists Inc. (SSI) together with the French Embassy in the Philippines to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
For the fair, the agriculture department assembled 24 exhibitors from across the country that highlighted the richness and diversity of Pinoy organic, artisanal, natural, and indigenous agricultural products.
The French side, for its part, offered their world-renowned cheese, wines, dairy and meat products, pastries, and other foodstuff.
Talk about being tipsy at lunchtime. This was how I felt as I visited the booths of the award-winning Don Papa Rum and Destileria Limtuaco. They each had free samples of their heady and delicious concoctions to give to guests. I just have to say Philippine alcohol is truly world-class.
The simple and unassuming Shalani Soledad-Romulo was present to lend support to her brother’s business venture, Victoria’s Pansit Malabon. It was made flavorful with this tasty tinapa sauce.
Memz Premium Pork Chicharon was a hit. I must say it’s quite addicting and a must-try.
This young guy was showcasing CMV Txokolat. One bite of their dark chocolate with cacao inside and I was sold.
The same thing with these Oh So Healthy! Fruit Crisps. Highly recommended if you want to avoid all those processed snacks. Just be warned that one bite isn’t enough, haha. Each packet sells for only P90.
Spotted: chocolates from Cibo the resto, with natural flavors like rosemary and chili peppers
These desserts from home-based Hiraya Bakery were excellent and used native ingredients. Kamias brownies, anyone?
Paired the sweet with a well-crafted long black from El Union Coffee which brought their pop-up bar at the festival…
Philippine Harvest Meets Bon Appétit was spearheaded by the Office of the Undersecretary for Agribusiness and Marketing and Regional Engagement led by Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat.
Undersecretary Puyat is shown with SSI President Anthony Huang, French Embassy Charge d’ Affaires Laurent Le Godec, and WWF Philippines Chairman Gigi Montinola.
Now that we had a first-hand experience of Philippine Harvest, we can’t wait for next year’s fair.See you then!
